Radiofrequency (RF) ablation for the treatment of breast cancer liver metastases

Local treatment of breast cancer metastases is indicated in certain circumstances. The efficacy of radio frequency (RF) ablation in breast liver metastases is investigated. Twenty-four patients with 64 intrahepatic metastases ranging from 1-6.6 cm (mean 2.9) underwent ultrasonic-guided RF-ablation using 17-gauge internally-cooled electrodes. Complete necrosis is obtained in 59/64 lesions (92.1%). One of these 59 lesions (1.6%) complications occurred.
