An analytical study of fully developed turbulent flow through tubes with twisted swirl promoters gives a satisfactory result for the friction coefficient. Data were obtained for pitch-to-diameter ratios from 3. 62 to 50. 0 and for Reynold's numbers from 10,000 up to 200,000 under isothermal conditions. Friction losses may be predicted from the combined effects of the axial and tangential boundary-layer flows coupled with an additional vortex-mixing effect. The swirl intensity is indicated by a parameter.
