In June 1987 British Coal lodged plans with local authorities in Warwickshire and the West Midlands for the POUND 400 million Hawkhurst Moor Colliery project. This project will create 1800 new jobs and promises to be the largest development launched around Coventry for many years. The new colliery is to be sited on the western outskirts of Coventry and after completion, estimated to be about ten years, there will be available for opening up around 143 million tonnes of high quality coal in the Warwickshire Thick Coal seam.
