WORK FUNCTION OF ZrCx AND NbCx SINGLE CRYSTALS.

摘要
The work functions of the (100) and (102) faces of ZrC//0//. //8//4 and NbC//0//. //8//6, deficient in terms of carbon in the homogeneity region, are studied by means of thermionic emission and contact potential. A correlation is found between the value of phi and the microhardness; the Smoluchowski rule does not hold for these surfaces. The results are discussed in connection with chemical binding in the carbides under the assumption that the metal-metal interaction is predominant.
