Results are presented from a study of the coalescence of charged droplets of a water/transformer oil emulsion in a constant electric field in the presence of a dispersed phase concentration of 1 to 3%. At dispersed phase concentrations of 1% or more the Coulomb-interaction between the droplets makes a much smaller contribution to the coalescence of the emulsion than the dipole-dipole interaction.
