An algorithm is proposed which carries out the canonical synthesis of linear systems by replacing the initial problem formulated by R. E. Kalman by a group of simpler problems involving the synthesis of linear systems where the minimal polynomial has a real root (of order greater or equal to one) or a couple of complex conjugated roots of order at least equal to one.
