With increase in concern with global environment protection, pollution-free natural energy, especially, solar energy is now expected for wide spread of practical use. We have developed a residential air-conditioning system with photovoltaic(PV) power supply. In the system, the PV generation power, being connected with the conventional air conditioner through the rectifier circuit, is regulated by an interface circuit and supplied to the VVVF inverter of the air conditioner. The power control of the system is carried out by the interface circuit. When the PV generation power is smaller than load consumption, the PV output is operated to track a maximum power point and supplied to the load in order to utilize PV output power most effectively. According to the operation data, PV power supply is about 70% of load consumption from 10:00 to 18:00 in summer.
