A space-filling curve in a unit square is the limit of a sequence S//1,S//2, . . . of continous curves which passes through every point of the square. Well-known examples of these curves are associated with the names Peano, Hilbert and Sierpinski. N. Wirth gave two closely related algorithms for constructing sequences of Hilbert and Sierpinski curves. This paper describes a modified form of the curve-drawing procedure. The new procedure is guided by a more compact definition of space-filling curves. The paper also describes a search procedure for discovering a sequence of new curves.
