摘要
In the transmission link between the TV studio and the subscriber there are two sections where it is feasible and economical to replace conventional coaxial transmission systems by fiber-optic technology. They are the links between the TV studio and the microwave radio network and between the satellite receiving station (head-end) and the CATV distribution network. In the past, coaxial cable transmission systems used by the Deutsche Bundespost (German PTT) over these links had ranges between 25 and 35 km long with repeaters spaced at intervals of 3 or 1 km. Through the use of fiber-optic technology, both types of links can be spanned without the use of repeaters. This results in considerable savings through lower equipment and cable laying costs.
