Flame cutting at General Electric's Large Steam Turbine-Generator Dept (Schenectady, NY) used to be a time-consuming, labor-intensive opeeration. CNC (computer numerical control) flame cutting has been tied to an interactive computer-graphics system, and the resulting distributed-numerical-control (DNC) system saves an annual 750,000 in material alone.
