Use of Spearman's footrule in testing for trend when the data are incomplete

Rank correlation has been used in tests for trend when the data are collected at regular time intervals. A new test of trend is proposed in situations when the data are incomplete based on an adaptation of the Spearman footrule. Its asymptotic properties are derived and, in a specific example, it is shown to be more sensitive than the naive procedure which ignores missing data.
