Glen Gery Corp. , Reading, Pa. , has initiated an energy-independence program of coal gasification to provide an uninterrupted supply of basic fuel for the company's face brick plants in Pennsylvania. Glen Gery now substitutes gas made from locally mined low-sulfur anthracite for natural gas as primary fuel for its brick kilns. The company has contracted for a guaranteed 15-year supply of anthracite from a joint-venture company which is now completing a cleaning plant in Schuylkill County. The joint venture will supply coal from its mine to the new preparation plant which is detailed here along with the Wellman-Galusha gas producers.
