A data-acquisition and recording system is described that uses digital display tubes, which can be used in electrically controlled serial machines. The accuracy and reliability are improved by making the acquistion and recording of each successive digit occur after that of the previous one. The mechanical shift mechanism has been replaced by an automatic carriage control; the uniselector, interrogation cam, and printer have been replaced by an electronic stepping distributor.
