Aerodynamics of reducers in low-pressure cylinders (LPC) of steam turbines

Research works have been conducted to experimentally investigate a complete model of the outlet circuit in the LPC of a steam turbine. These investigations covered the neck of the condenser. Velocity fields behind elements of the reducer have been obtained, and their aerodynamic features determined. Methods to optimize the passing part of the outlet circuit have been considered. A conclusion has been made that aerodynamic features of flows in reducers of LPCs are determined mainly by characteristics of whirled flows. These whirled flows are formed in circuits of the reducer with high nonuniformity of the velocity field.
