A 2-GHz, 960-telephone channels or one color TV channel, heterodyne-type radio relay system with very low power consumption (7 watts per transmitter-receiver) is introduced, and it is shown how such a system can be realized. The merits of this low power consumption power-supply system are discussed. An improved switching-type voltage regulator, developed for this system, is reported. Since a similar low power consumption radio relay system for operation in the 4-GHz band is now being developed, the design performance and some of the data obtained are presented.
