A study was made of the process of blowing aluminum and solutions of aluminum in iron with gaseous carbon monoxide in the temperature range from 1500 to 1600 degree C. Metallographic and X-ray structural analyses of samples obtained after the blowing established that the aluminum had been oxidized. A mechanism of the reaction between carbon monoxide and aluminum is proposed.
