A discussion is presented of the organization and content of a new course that has been specifically designed for chemical engineers on the application of KBES methodology in process engineering. Course organization content are given. Project guidelines are discussed and a synopses is given of some of the projects. The author indicates that this course addresses an emerging need to train chemical engineers in the use of symbolic, knowledge-based programming methodologies that will play a crucial role in process engineering in the future. In the AIPE course chemical engineering students were taught the inter-disciplinary area of artificial intelligence and process engineering using examples and exercises from process engineering. This approach is more appropriate and meaningful to chemical engineers than learning from a computer science point of view.
