Germany is busy constructing some new high speed twin track railways for a new generation of fast trains designed to ease the pressure on the autobahn system by offering business executives alternative connections between major cities. A prototype design of blade shield TBM working under compressed air and a new mix-at-the-face concreting train are helping to solve the problems of driving a 5. 2 m diameter pilot tunnel for a railway through difficult ground in Germany.
