Effect of stereoregularity on the thermal behavior of polystyrene prepared by the anionic process in different solvents

C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic investigations revealed the effect of solvent polarity on the stereoregularity of polystyrenes obtained from the anionic polymerization of styrene using n-butyllithium initiator. Differential scanning calorimetric determination of Tm, ΔH, and ΔS showed that the changes in stereoregularity are connected with changes in thermal behavior of polystyrene.
