Questioning the reality of global warming may seem presumptuous when committees such as the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Control (IPCC) and European governments support the thesis. If there is truly the possibility of global environmental catastrophe, then it is time to act responsibly. On the other hand, if there is no significant problem, mandatory energy conservation and higher energy taxes will lower the standard of living because energy is the lifeblood of the U.S. economy.
