In order to investigate the fatigue properties of metastable austenitic steels, flat- and notch-fatigue tests of several kinds of high-nickel steels were carried out. The effect of instability of austenite on the fatigue strength was not distinct, but the fatigue strength of metastable austenitic steels was a little higher than that of stable austenitic steels. With increasing the amount of martensite, the flat- and notch-tensile strength increased remarkably, but their fatigue strength was similar to that of a simple austenitic steel.
