摘要
Buried servo layers are employed in magnetic disk files to provide signals which can be employed for track-following control of one or more magnetic heads. The servo layer is placed under a magnetic layer containing data. There are many different ways such buried servo layers can be prepared. The present approach uses a thin particulate layer formed as described in U. S. Patent 4,331,961. Such a layer may have advantages over other buried servo layers in that it can accomplish a number of different desirable functions all at the same time.
