COMBUSTION CHARACTERISTIC TEST AND LONG TERM TEST OF RAPE OIL FUELED DIESEL ENGINE.

Based on the results of numerous tests, a long term (more than 100 h) bed test of a diesel engine utilizing neat rape oil as a fuel was carried out successfully. Experimental results demonstrated that the maximum output of diesel engine was invariable, and that the minimum specific fuel consumption increased by 2. 4 to 3%. The lowest idle speed decreased, the wear of parts was normal, and the viscosity of lubricating oil varied within the allowable extent. In accordance with the analysis of the test, a reference test method utilizing rape oil as a fuel directly on the existing IDI diesel was suggested. The combustion characteristic of the fuel are also reported in the paper.
