1.107 μm Yb3+-doped phosphate fiber laser pumped by a Ti:sapphire

Using a conventional rod-in-tube method, a single transverse mode phosphate glass fiber was fabricated. The fiber diameter was measured as 6 μm for the Yb3+-doped core and 180 μm of the inner cladding. The fiber is coated with a protective polymer. The dopant content of the Yb2O3 is 1.5 wt-%. The length of the fiber is 0.5 m. Single-mode Yb3+-doped phosphate fiber laser was pumped by a Ti:sapphire-laser at 930 nm wavelength at the room temperature. The coupling efficiency was about 10% between Ti:sapphire-laser and the fiber. Two coating mirrors were placed on both sides of the fiber to form a Fabry-Perot cavity. The input mirrors possesses a reflectivity of 99% at 1.107 μm wavelength and T=75 at 930 nm wavelength.
