The present power shortage has mainly two consequences on the aluminum production. Increase in the production cost which follows the power cost. Production shortage because of power lack. Consequently, power saving technologies are doubly interesting. The author describes concisely the Pechiney plant of Auzat (France) which produces annually with its line of 140 prebaked pots, 90 kA, an amount of 30,000 metric tons (33,000 st. ); the D. C. power specific consumption is slightly below 13,000 kWh/ton (5. 9 kWh/lbs).
