LIGHT SCATTERING IN COLLOIDS & EMULSIONS USING LASER RADIATION.

Using laser radiation and eliminating all possible errors, very precise measurements of the depolarization ratios have been carried out for four sols (arsenic trisulphide, sulphur, stearic acid and vanadium pentoxide) and five emulsions (lemon grass oil, castor oil, paraffin oil, toluene and linseed oil). From the depolarization ratios, a qualitative investigation of the shape and size of the particles in these sols and emulsions has been made. A quantitative estimation of the average size of the particles has been attempted from the measurement of the intensity of the scattered light. R. S. Krishnan's reciprocity relation is experimentally confirmed in the case of emulsions also in addition to the sols.
