摘要
It seems incontestable that we have too many teachers of engineering who know too little of what engineering is all about. They may be skilled researchers, analyzers, or even designers, but they cannot introduce a student to the full panoply of engineering. This leaves some students poorly prepared, especially those who join smaller companies where formal training is difficult to obtain. There would be great gain for education and for speeding up the process of innovation if there were more close ties between industry and the universities.
