Electrodeposition of zinc or cadmium may be carried out from different baths based on cyanide, sulfate, sulfamate, sulfate-chloride, fluoborate, etc. Because of pollution considerations, the present trent is in favor of using cyanide-free baths. Work carried out at the Central Electrochemical Research Institute has resulted in superior formulations for zinc as well as cadmium electrodeposition. The superiority of the new baths is in terms of stability, current efficiency and improved deposit qualities. Presented are corrosion data for deposits from cyanide-free and cyanide based zinc and cadmium baths.
