Apart from backhoes, which are available in standard and extra-duty or rock form, there are clam-shovels and forward-discharge buckets, coaling shovels designed to strip shallow seams in opencast operations, rippers, attachments for hydraulic hammers, grapples for rock handling. Quarrying operations call for particular qualities in the attachments used, notably the ability to withstand impact loading plus abrasive wear.
