DYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PREDICTIVE ADAPTIVE OPTICAL SYSTEMS.

An adaptive optical system is treated as a linear dynamic system with delay. Using a variety of means for the statistical prediction of random phase distortions, we calculate the errors involved in estimating the mean field and mean intensity in an adaptive optical system with constant time delay. We assess the improvement in correction quality in a system with 'prediction' as compared with a constant-delay system.
