The stability of a bounded plane layer of a current-carrying plasma has been investigated. The low-conductivity limit is considered, taking account of the compressibility of the medium and the thermal conductivity. The layer is found to be unstable in the long-wave limit. The characteristic decay rate is of the order of the isothermal acoustic velocity.
