This article deals with the thermohydraulics of steam generators in pressurized-water or fast-neutron reactors built in France. A list is given of the theoretical or experimental methods used to analyze either the behavior of the steam generator as a whole or phenomena occurring in more localized areas of the exchange surface. Details are given of the amount of precision of the methods used, and the fields where research is still needed are pointed out. The methods used have made an extensive study of these appliances possible, but research on certain points is still necessary: knowledge of two-phase flow and its models must be improved, in particular to get away from one-dimensional schematization. Great efforts must be developed to the study of coupling between flow structures, phenomena of mass transfer at the wall, and the corrosion which this may lead to.
