Possibilities to manufacture coke at low temperatures, which comply with requirements of blast furnace process, were investigated. Thermal conditions in a coke oven and a coking chamber, bringing about the required heating rate of coke cake, were evaluated using a mathematical model. It is recommended that the charging density should be increased and coking rate should be accelerated at the expense of building furnace for average-temperature coking from a more heat-conducting material and with a smaller thickness of the oven chamber walls to increase the coke strength.
