This article gives a brief review of the applied pressure ranges (0 divided by 1,6 Mpa), steaming rates generated by high-capacity (up to 40 t/h) blast furnaces, and other operational parameters of the evaporative cooling system. The evaporative cooling system most commonly used at present in the world is described. The operating principles of evaporative cooling, the value of the circulating water ration (approx. 39 kg/kg), the different flow patterns of the steam and water mixture, and other factors which should be taken into account in designing and operating the cooling system are discussed. The application range, as well as the merits and faults of the evaporative cooling system are listed and discussed.
