The paper examines possible benefits from the implementation of control strategies based on feed-pattern variations. Strategies were analyzed for several different operating environments using a dynamic model of the process for computer simulations. A model of the activated-sludge system incorporating the active and inert fractions of the mixed liquor volatile suspended solids was developed.
