摘要
In devising new educational programs to make engineering more responsive to societal needs, it is essential for the engineer to define, very carefully, the real problems he is trying to solve. To do this the engineer must know the extent of his true responsibilities, which means he must be aware of the interfaces between engineering and the other professions. This demands a definition of engineering in a systems context which shows its relationship to other professions. The engineer badly needs a philosophy of engineering to guide his activities in the area of social involvement.
