With the development of the latest generation of Hasler PCM transmission equipment the requirements of users other than the PTT have been taken into consideration. One such application is described - the Rhaetian railway, whereby the special conditions encountered with digital transmission in the vicinity of railways are discussed, such as interference signals in the PCM transmission cable caused by the various railway signals, and the use of the digital channel through-switching is dealt with in more detail.
