Within less than a year, deregulation has transformed Japan into one of the world's hottest markets for digital cellular and wireless systems. The cellular market is now expected to represent 3.6 million subscribers, a 71% growth over the fiscal year. Among new subscriptions, digital cellular should account for over 600,000 lines. This year, the first personal handyphone system operators will start commercial service.
