摘要
The new guidance note contains an outline of the relevant UK legal requirement and the approach to controlling and monitoring exposure through compliance with the listed exposure limits. EH 40 gives exposure limits for over 460 toxic substances and marks the formal end of the UK's dependence on the recommendations of the ACGIH. The limits are concentrations in the workplace atmosphere expressed both in parts per million (ppm) and milligrams per cubic metre of air (mg m** minus **3). The principal effect of the document is to replace the American list with a two-tier system of control and recommended limits.
