Effect of sudden application of heat load on the mechanism of vaporization of alkali metals in heat-pipe wicks

摘要
The relationships governing vaporization in the wick of the evaporator of a sodium heat pipe under explosive flashing conditions are analyzed. The onset of film boiling and attainment of the limiting sodium superheat are calculated by solving the problem of unsteady heating of an evaporator under Neumann's boundary conditions on the outer surface and Fourier's boundary conditions on the inner (porous) surface. Experimental data on the operation of a sodium evaporator under explosive flashing conditions are given.
