Machine reliability can be much more accurately evaluated if the evaluation is not based only on calculations or on testing a limited number of examples but on a calculation-experimental method which should reveal the main possible types of failure and should contain a calculated or experimental evaluation of the probability of absence of each of them and should include a formula that unites these evaluations into a reliability evaluation of the entire machine. Given the requirements for performance indices, the number of components and their combination, the number of possible main falures of the machines w can be evaluated.
