Finance versus technology

There has always been an uneasy alliance between the technology side of the IT business and the finance side. When selecting technologies and approaches, many users have relied on price/performance criteria in the hope that this will provide some discipline to their technology bent. But they have often been betrayed by such simple criteria which, on the surface, should tell use in which information systems to invest. And this is even if they can overcome the complexities of comparing oranges and apples.
