The typical conveyor belt is combustible. The fire hazard is likely to be greater with an older belt, which may be coated or impregnated with lubricants and possibly also with combustible residue from the conveyed material. Complicating the fire hazard problem is the occasional use of a deck or shield between the upper conveying belt and the lower return belt. The paper recommends protective measures.
