Sound Broadcasting Via Satellites.

For the development of West-European sound broadcasting in the coming decades, certain factors are decisive; these include the demand for special programs, new systems, such as tetraphony, or simply an increase in the number of programs radiated. This gives rise to a need for frequency channels which it is difficult to accommodate in the frequency band at present in use. Although terrestrial transmitters in the 12-GHz band are suitable for local coverage, they are uneconomical for national coverage. The present paper discusses the parameters of a system for the broadcasting of sound broadcasting programs from satellites, as well as the advantages and disadvantages specific to such a system.
