Rising production costs have made it necessary for forging furnaces to be developed which are designed to save energy, provide rapid and uniform heating and rationalize operation. Small-size forging stock such as thin-walled plate and bar stock in particular requires accurate and reproducible heating. A number of gas-fired small-size forging furnaces for plate and bar stock are presented which largely meet the requirements outlined.
