Aspects of advanced control theory which had previously been largely disregarded by the utility industry are being re-examined as a potential source of improvements in both steady state efficiency and transient response. This study reviews, from the standpoint of current research relevant to process control, powerplant control needs, deficiencies in current practice, and current research emphases.
