COMMUNICATION BY EXCEPTION AND A TOOL TO ACHIEVE IT IN MAN-COMPUTER INTERACTION.

Today there is almost a total gap between batch and interactive computing. Its disadvantages and reasons are discussed. To develop a more versatile communication protocol the underlying philosophy of ″communication by exception″ is outlined together with a ″communications performer″ to achieve it. The availability in a system of a communications performer, which can not only transform messages like advanced command processors but also partially or totally act as a pseudo-user, will allow a simpler system architecture and will induce a more function oriented modularity of interactive command routines. Finally, the main advantages and disadvantages of such a communications performer are discussed.
