Mechanical testing such as smashing, thumping, dropping, stretching, bending, and indenting materials can reveal a lot about their mechanical properties and defects. But such mechanical testing procedures also destroys the sample in question. Nondestructive testing, inspection, and evaluation techniques, on the other hand, allow materials engineers to check the integrity of samples without the need to break it apart. The wide range of techniques, services, and equipment for nondestructive testing are discussed.
