The use of prestressed concrete makes a reduction of sections possible, which means an increase of the slenderness ratio and lower weight. Pre-fabricated building components of prestressed concrete have proven particulary economic in industrial construction. This concerns above all large span roofs and ceilings, which are assembled of these elements. A range of standardized sections permits a rationalized production in steel moulds adjustable in length, height and bearing capacity, to make these elements variable. Some example of precast elements are given for better illustration of advantages offered by standardized precast concrete elements.
