摘要
This summary deals first with relatively simple industrial cooling systems, which are effectively protected against corrosion by addition of inhibitors to the cooling ″water″ . Such inhibitors and their effects are tabulated. This is following by discussion of heavy duty systems where in addition to the materials used, specific operating conditions have to be considered. An example is a modern diesel engine. The following special conditions are dealt with: effect on corrosion of very low or very high velocities of the cooling water, heat transfer, lubricating properties of the coolant, vibrations, that can cause cavitation or fatigue corrosion, and interaction between the corrosion inhibitor and other electrochemical systems of corrosion protection, such as cathodic protection.
